Rumah Penghulu Abu Seman is Badan Warisan’s key asset, essential for our outreach to the community – a cultural beacon shining a light on our mission to preserve Malaysia’s unique heritage.

We have been successfully awarded a grant from Think City to kick-start an urgent restoration of Rumah Penghulu’s roof, and repair water damage to the interior and structural elements. A Building Condition Assessment has already been completed. The assessment confirms both the urgency of the project and that the grant will not cover the entire restoration.

We are happy to welcome Jabatan Warisan Negara (JWN) registered conservation architect Ar. Azim A Aziz on board to oversee the restoration. Ar. Azim brings with him a wealth of experience in restoring heritage buildings.

When it rains, it pours… inside

Rumah Penghulu’s roof is no longer keeping the rain out and the building is now in a fragile state. Regular water infiltration is impacting the wooden interior and the structural integrity of the building. As we witness a year-on-year increase in the frequency and intensity of rainfall in our region, it becomes essential for Badan Warisan Malaysia to make this intervention now.

While Rumah Penghulu still looks beautiful in images like the one above, detailed inspection reveals the urgency of this project.
